I have been to Tokyo, Japan twice and I am always interested in the Japanese culture. In the past few years I find myself going to museums more often. I really like to visit exhibitions with interesting themes, like James Bond, Coco Chanel and art exhibitions.

Upon entering the Cool Japan exhibition there is a big entrance with lots of toys displayed. There is a big screen at the background which is playing animation and songs.

The platform with toys is rotating around and it has a lot of cool toys on it. For instance you see Hello Kitty, Super Mario and Totoro. The toys vary from size on the pink platform and they instantly give me a happy feeling.

 Cool Japan

As I mentioned before, I have visited Tokyo twice. I really like Tokyo and I want to travel back to Japan someday. This time I want to visit the rest of Japan as well, especially Kyoto seem very beautiful to me. While I was in Tokyo I went to a lot of interesting districts like Harajuku, Shibuya, Shinjiku and Akihabara. Believe it or not I am a pretty big nerd and I like to read manga and I do have a some toys at home.

The exhibition has some artwork on their walls of Street Fighter and some Sailor Moon goodies, which are childhood memories of mine.

Arcade games

At the exhibition there are also a few arcade games. We saw people playing on the drum game, but we haven’t played it ourselves. You have to drum on the beat to score points.

There is also a Japanese table flipping game, which is quite funny. It is an arcade game where you get angry and then you need to flip a table. My boyfriend has flipped the table once and this is the result.

At last but not least, there is a Street Fighter game! We played it together, I chose Chun Li and my boyfriend Ryu. I lost unfortunately, but I was getting close to beat him hehe.

Lolita, Hello Kitty and Manga

The exhibition has several rooms and I took some pictures of the things of my interest. There is this pink room with Lolita clothes on dolls, they are very colorful and cute.

There is this corner with Hello Kitty and My Melody soft toys attached to the wall, they are so adorable.

I am a huge Oh! My Goddess fan and I am so sad that the series has come to an end. To my surprise the wall also has some Oh! My Goddess comics!

The Museum Volkenkunde has a lot of interesting exhibitions. In the past I have seen the Kimono exhibition and feather exhibition. They were both very interesting and beautiful to see.

The museum is located in Leiden and it is very central. It is a few minutes walk from the station and it is in the heart of the city center. I am curious about new exhibitions in the future. I really like the Museum Volkenkunde and I will visit it again.
