Indian restaurant Maharani in The Hague

Last friday I met up with my best friend and we had dinner at the Indian restaurant Maharani in The Hague. Today I will write a review about this restaurant.

Indian restaurant Maharani in The Hague

I have been to the Maharani restaurant several times before. The Maharani restaurant is in the city center of The Hague. The location is at the Noordeinde. So it is quite close by the Noordeinde palace and near the high end shops.

Traditional authentic Indian food

The Maharani serves traditional authentic Indian food. They have a surprise menu which you can choose from. You can choose vegetarian, chicken, fish or lamb, or you can make a combination of the options. But of course you can also order from their a la carte menu. Me and my friend likes the vegetarian menu of Maharani a lot, so we order the veggie menu.

At first they serve us the cold starter. It is pappadums in a basket, with 3 sauces. There is a mint sauce, mango chutney and a spicy sauce.

The pappadums are really yummy. My favorite of the 3 sauces is the mango chutney, but the mint sauce is very nice as well. The spicy sauce is a bit too spicy for me, so I usually only dip my pappadums in the mint sauce and mango chutney.

After finishing our pappadums, they serve us our hot starter.

Hot starter

The starter consists of 2 sauces and mixed vegetable pakora. We got the spiced batter coated aubergines and potatoes. Along with this we also have the vegetarian samosa, which are spiced vegetable patties. I really like the starter dishes, they are very yummy along with the sauces.

Main dish

After finishing our starters, it takes some time before we get our main dish. The restaurant is packed though, so that’s probably one of the reasons why it takes so long. Unfortunately in the city center you can now only park for 2 hours. So my friend needs to move her car during dinner, which is quite annoying. The waiter tells us to park in the garage next time. We will keep that in mind.

The main dish finally arrives!

It looks so yummy right? The main dish consists of Palak Paneer, Aloo Gobi, Baigan Bartha, Kadhai Chholey, white rice and garlic naan bread.

The Palak Paneer is a spinach dish, with cottage cheese, fresh herbs and spices. Aloo Gobi is a dish with cauliflower and potatoes, this is a spicy dish. Baigan Bartha is a dish with soft aubergines. I really like this dish, I think this is my favorite dish out of all main dishes. At last, but not least, Kadhai Chholey are chickpeas in Kadhai.

The main dish is so good and I am so full afterwards. It is always tricky to eat here, they serve you a lot of food. It is hard not to overeat, but I always do.

After finishing our main dish, we get our last dish, the dessert.

It is Kulfi and mango Kulfi with whipped cream. I really like their ice cream. It is Indian ice cream with almonds and pistachio and mango ice cream. Our belly is really full now and happy.
